The preparations to welcome to the delegates from different countries for the maiden G-20 meeting in Srinagar between May 22- 24 are in full swing, but puts a question mark over the government’s lackadaisical attitude is the heaps of garbage on the roadsides in Srinagar city from which stinky smell emanates, causing health issues to the passerby. In one such example, the heaps of garbage could be seen piling up at Habba Kadal bridge. Stinky smell emanates from the garbage and thus the pedestrians as well as the local shopkeepers face tremendous hardships due to its presence. The garbage is being removed in the morning hours every day, but nobody dares to walk through the roadside due to the stinky smell. There are a couple of more spots where the garbage could be seen piling up on every single day. The first and foremost demand of the locals, traders and the passerby is to shift the dumping spot from Habba Kadal locality to the place where there is no rush of the people like the busiest place. Besides proving risky for health to the passerby and shopkeepers, the garbage on the roadsides is also leaving less space for the commuters and the pedestrians, causing immense hardships to them. It is pivotal for the concerned authorities to shift the garbage dumping spot from the busiest market to ensure that the health of the people are not put at risk and enough space is given to the commuters to ensure the hassle free vehicular movement.
