School Edu Deptt to assign vigilante role to students to curb drug menace in educational institutes

Srinagar, May 24: In south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, School Education Department has decided to assign a vigilante role to some students to curb the drug menace in and around educational institutes.
The deputy commissioner of the district in the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) meeting has been directed to devise a comprehensive list of tasks to be followed by each schools.
The Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Anantnag has accordingly impressed upon all the schools to adhere to the instructions given by the department.
”All Schools shall arrange special session and motivational lectures in morning Assembly once or twice a month thereby imparting awareness about ill effects of drugs and substance abuse,” the CEO said.
In a circular issued by the CEO, he said that all School shall arrange a Lecture per class regarding awareness about ill effects of drugs/ substance abuse once a week.
He also said that during the monthly Parent Teacher meeting, deliberations regarding the drug abuse and its prevention must be made.
“The trained teacher (NCORD) from each the School shall organize teaching sessions for fellow employees of the school,” reads the circular.
It further states, “Students should be assigned special duties on voluntary basis to keep vigil on potential drug addict entities, both within the premises and outside the premises of school.”
The CEO said that the vigilant volunteers shall be trained to share the information regarding any potential drug addict secretly to the school management, who shall in turn report it to the law and order agencies.
”All HOIs shall display the hoardings to popularise the drug de-addiction helpline number and tele-MANAS website in the school for immediate information and support and creating awareness amongst affected persons or students and their families regarding services available on the given numbers or website,” it reads.
