Srinagar, Jun 26: Dal dwellers Monday said that the water level in Dal Lake is above normal and there is a danger of inundating localities in the water body.
They said that normally the water level is below 9 feet but a couple of days before the G20 even in Srinagar, the water level was raised to above 10 feet and since then the level has not been decreased.
Dozens of vegetable gardens in the Lake will get damaged if the water level increases further, a resident said.
The Dal dwellers alleged that all it is being done to hide the pollution level of the water body.
“When the water level is high, it not only makes polluted elements like weeds invisible but also pose risk to the tourists,” one of the locals from Dal Lake said. Another local said that they raised the issue with top officials who said the water level has been increased at the directions of Vice Chairman Lakes and Conservation Management.
When contacted, an official on condition of anonymity said that the water level is a bit up and that should come down. He said it is up to VC to take a call in this regard. [KNT]
