Sopore, Sep 18: The residents of Shangargund village of Sopore in north Kashmir on Monday held a protest over water scarcity in their locality while accusing the Jal Shakti department of failing to provide them with a drinking water supply.
The residents said that they are facing acute shortage of drinking water for the last few weeks while the concerned department has failed to redress the issue.
“There is no drinking water in our village and we are being compelled to drink unhygienic water, which is posing serious health issues,” they alleged.
The agitated residents blocked Sopore – Kupwara highway, thus resulting in the traffic jams, however, the traffic movement was restored shortly after police intervention.
They appealed to the authorities to address the issue soonest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
