Every agency, organization as well as the government itself is bracing up to organize the events on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, being observed across the globe on December 3 every year. But what changes have been made for the persons with disability needs to be discussed as observing the day doesn’t mean spending huge money to get rousing applause, but it needs to be observed to see what necessary steps are mandatory to bring ease to the specially-abled and also bring smiles on their faces. Reports quoting the specially-abled persons claim that they are “not considered as humans” both by the government as well as society as they are being deprived of their rights. It is unfortunate that people with disabilities are always seen protesting to raise their voices in Srinagar and elsewhere on World Disability Day to press for their rights. The persons with disabilities don’t have special educators, disabled-friendly washrooms in schools, teaching material and related things, which even deprive many of them to join schools and pursue their education. Instead of organizing events and making huge claims on this particular day, there is a need to work in tandem with all the departments including the education sector so that necessary and immediate measures are taken to put an end to the sufferings of specially-abled persons and they enjoy their rights like other parts of the globe. The government should especially focus on spending money for the wellbeing of persons with disabilities instead of wasting it on organizing events at different platforms.
