Srinagar, Mar 23: Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday disclosed her endeavor to write her mother’s biography, shedding light on the party’s journey and its significance in Kashmiri politics.
During the interview with a news channel, Iltija shared her intensive research on Kashmir’s history, undertaken in preparation for her mother’s biography. She emphasized the pivotal role played by Mehbooba Mufti and her father, PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, in challenging the dominance of a single party and offering an alternative vision to the people, rooted in dignity and empowerment. “I am reading a lot of Kashmir history these days. This is because I am writing my mother- Mehbooba Mufti’s biography and how she and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed challenged the single party dominance in Kashmir’s political landscape and offered an alternative to the people of this region. It was the PDP that accorded a sense of dignity to the people of Kashmir,” Iltija said.
Highlighting Mehbooba Mufti’s tireless efforts, Iltija underscored the formation of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) as a testament to her commitment to safeguarding Kashmir’s core interests. She reiterated that the PDP prioritizes the welfare and aspirations of Kashmiri people above all else.
Iltija rose to prominence following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, during her mother’s incarceration. Her outspoken interviews criticizing the communication blockade and restrictions in Kashmir garnered attention, solidifying her role as a prominent voice amidst the turmoil. Since then, she has managed her mother’s social media accounts and was appointed as Mehbooba Mufti’s media advisor on August 31 last year.
