The drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir has turned out to be a major challenge for the administration as the youngsters are getting involved in this trap with each passing day. Both the civil administration as well as Police have been putting efforts to eradicate the menace from Jammu & Kashmir and ensure that the menace will not consume the precious lives and will not affect the families any further. Since the efforts are going on, the head cleric in Kashmir Mirwaiz Umar Farooq too has extended the support to the government in eradicating the drug menace, saying that the Police and the government have been doing well in this regard and they are ready extend their support in any manner to help eradicating the menace once for all. In this regard, the Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired the 9th UT level Apex committee meeting of NCORD to have better coordination among different stakeholders at the highest level to control illicit trade and supply of Narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir. He took notice of the number of detentions made in the UT during the previous year and the proportion of successful convictions made in the court of law. He asked about the properties of drug dealers attached, so far. He also maintained that the primary victims of this social threat are our youngsters so it is highly essential to have enhanced vigil around the educational institutions and other hotspots in each district. Such actions and measures are the need of the hour to achieve the goal of eradicating drug menace. The district administrations should enhance the vigil to make sure that the whole society is free from the menace at earliest and at the same time, those involved in drug dealing should face stringent action as per the law.
