When journalism turns into trolling: Reclaiming fourth pillar of democracy (Part-II)

Giving the reins of some of the roads in Srinagar to Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has proved to be an unproductive move for the residents here as in the past over five years, several roads in the City areas have never been macadamized to ensure a smooth passage to the commuters. From Barbarshah to Nai Sadak in the interiors of Habba Kadal, the people are being pushed to the wall as the road has developed multiple and big potholes, but nobody seems keen and interested to put an end to the miseries of the common masses living in the areas in between. Nearly a decade has passed since the road was macadamized last time, but since then, the concerned authorities have always been found playing a blame game, however taking the people for granted by not repairing or macadamizing the road. Such non-seriousness shown the authorities concerned has pushed the local residents, especially the commuters, to the wall, who are facing immense hardships while travelling on the road, especially while carrying the patients in their vehicles. There are several such roads that have not been macadamized or repaired since long, which simultaneously affects vehicular movement. One fails to understand why the interior roads in Srinagar have not been macadamized for the last several years. The smooth passage to the commuters must be ensured in Srinagar and elsewhere, thereby the concerned authorities should take measures in this regard and repair all the non-macadamized and potholed roads as soon as possible.
