Eid: Let’s drive sensibly

The Eid celebrations have always turned into mourning for many people as the people, especially the youngsters don’t adhere to the traffic norms, thereby leading to the fatal accidents in Srinagar and elsewhere in the Valley. Eid-ul-Fitr, which was celebrated across Kashmir over two months back, had witnessed a rise in road accidents. The medicos at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital, here recorded a massive number of people with injuries due to the road accidents, most of them two-wheeler riders. However, Eid-ul-Adha always witnesses a huge rush of commuters as the people usually come out of their homes to distribute the meat of animals, which Muslims sacrifice on this Eid as part of the religious obligations. The family, especially the parents, needs to play a key role in educating their child with regard to stopping them from riding the two-wheelers and also ride slowly on the roads. The parents should ensure that only those having a valid driving license are allowed to ride the bikes, scooties and other two-wheelers. Reducing the number of fatal road accidents is not only the responsibility of the government, but the common masses have to share their bit as well to help the efforts being taken by the administration is result-oriented. At this juncture, sensible driving should be given a focus by the parents so that fatal accidents are prevented and the people can celebrate the festival without any untoward incidents.
