Srinagar, Jun 27: Around five cases of jaundice have been reported in the Khrew area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, which has raised concerns among the public.
A health official informed that around five cases of jaundice have been reported in Khrew. He said the screening process is underway to confirm the diagnosis.
The official said that medical teams, along with Asha workers, are conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns to educate people on how to protect themselves against the disease. “They are advising residents to use boiled water and wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly before consumption,” he said.
Residents in the area have expressed concerns that contaminated water may be the source of the outbreak, and have called for it to be investigated further. However, a health official has assured that the situation is under control and there is no need to panic.
“All positive patients have been recovering,” the official said. He advised locals to use only boiled water and maintain good personal hygiene.
Similar outbreaks of jaundice were reported earlier this year in other parts of south Kashmir. In March, around 20 cases were reported in Pahnoo Shopian, 10 cases in Bellow Pulwama, and five cases in Padgampora Awantipora. However, all those affected had made a full recovery.
