Shopian, Jul 3: Residents of Zahidbagh in Pulwama and Darbagh in Shopian have urged authorities to issue compensation before taking up widening of vital Watchi-Darbagh road.
Locals from the area said that the Roads and Buildings department officials have issued a circular for removing structures along the road without looking at the component of compensation
They said that the road widening will cause huge damage to their houses and other properties.
“Although roads are important but we belong to a poor background. It will not be possible for us to construct a new house without compensation,” said a local Shabir Ahmad Dar.
Locals said that the road connects dozens of villages but it should not be done at the behest of poor people without taking them into confidence.
“We have brought this issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” they added.
They have requested administration to look into this issue carefully before taking up the widening of the road.
