Srinagar, Aug 3: The city traffic police authorities have launched a crackdown against E-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws operating in Srinagar, seizing over 200 vehicles for various violations, including over 40 E-rickshaws driven by minors in the last week.
A senior traffic police official said that the drive targets both petrol-driven auto-rickshaws and E-rickshaws, focusing on checking vehicle documents and driving licenses.
“The ongoing drive is aimed at auto-rickshaws and E-rickshaws operating in the city without proper documentation or driving licenses. Over 200 such vehicles have been seized in the past week,” he said.
The officer said that during this drive, more than 40 E-rickshaws were confiscated because they were being driven by minors.
An officer supervising the campaign said they have consistently warned against allowing minors to operate any type of vehicle, yet numerous violations have been observed.
The senior officer added that while this drive is part of regular enforcement activities, there will be an intensified effort in the coming days across various locations in Srinagar. “During the drive, many petrol-driven auto-rickshaws were found operating without necessary documents. Some were fined, while others were seized for relevant violations,” he added.
Notably, several videos have circulated on social media showing minors driving E-rickshaws, prompting netizens to call for action.
The Srinagar traffic police said these ongoing efforts aim to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and enhance road safety in the city.
