Doctors: The heartbeat of our healthcare system

A wave of enthusiasm for sports among the youth is sweeping across Jammu and Kashmir with the grounds remaining flooded with the young and old people on a regular basis, who could be seen playing different sports. Yet, this vibrant passion is overshadowed by a troubling reality: the rise in drug abuse among the young generation in Jammu and Kashmir and to tackle the dual challenge, there is a need to invest in and improve the sports infrastructure across the Union Territory. Sports have long been recognized as a vital tool for promoting health, discipline, and teamwork. They offer a constructive outlet for energy and creativity, fostering a sense of belonging and achievement. However, without proper facilities and programs, this potential can easily be squandered. Many young people find themselves with limited options for positive engagement, leaving them vulnerable to the allure of drugs and other harmful behaviors. Improving sports infrastructure is more than just building new fields and gyms; it’s about creating accessible, inclusive environments where every young person can participate. We need safe, well-maintained spaces that cater to diverse interests, ensuring that no child feels excluded based on their background or abilities. By providing a variety of sports options, we can draw in more participants and foster a culture of teamwork and support. The enthusiasm among the youth for sports is a beacon of hope, but it needs nurturing through robust infrastructure and comprehensive programs. Let us come together to build not just fields and courts, but a brighter future for our young people—one where they can grow, compete, and ultimately lead drug-free lives. The time for action is now; let’s seize this opportunity to invest in our youth and our communities.
