Srinagar, Nov 2: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in north Kashmir’s Handwara and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A team of Handwara Police led by SHO Kralgund at a checkpoint established at Ananwan Crossing Kralgund, apprehended three persons identified as Irshad Ahmad Gazi son of Gh Rasool Gazi resident of Kralpora Kralgund, Sajad Ahmad Rather son of Mohd Subhan Rather resident of Kralpora Kralgund and Syed Anwar Geelani son of Syed Sharief-ud-din Geelani resident of Tangwari Kunnel. During search, 105 grams of Charas was recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, a Police party of Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Delina Ghat, intercepted a vehicle (i10) bearing registration number DL11CA-5236 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Sajad Ahmad Magray son of Ghulam Mohd resident of Janbazpora and Imtiyaz Hussain Khandwah son of Gh Hassan resident of Bagh-e-Rehmat. During search, 25 grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from their possession.
All the accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations, besides, the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
