While the development and employment remained the war cry for the ruling National Conference during the election campaigning, some positive decisions and changes have been witnessed in the first month of the elected government’s functioning in Jammu and Kashmir as the new dispensation has started working on identifying the vacant posts to fill it immediately. In the first instance, the Education Minister and the only lady Minister in the council of ministers, has taken a lead in this grave issue, by approving the advertisements for 575 lecturer positions in various streams within the School Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir. With this initiative, the government has seemingly moved forward within an aim to fulfill the promises with regard to providing jobs to unemployed youth of J&K. The move didn’t remain confined to the announcement only, but the Education Minister, who also holds the charge of Health and Medical Education, has made several visits to different hospitals across J&K wherein the directions were passed to the concerned to identify all the vacant posts within the hospitals and the department to ensure immediate and necessary actions. The pace that has been taken for filling the vacant posts would not only provide employment opportunities to the educated but unemployed youth across J&K, but it would also reduce the burden on the existing employees, who are presently holding additional charges. Such measures are imperative at this juncture to ensure that there is adequate manpower within the departments to tackle the situation and ensure the redressal of genuine grievances of people at the shortest possible time. The other ministers should also take a cue from it and must pass the directions over filling the vacant positions so that the grave issue of unemployment can be tackled easily without any further delay.
