The National Children’s Day was celebrated across all the educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir with many experts suggesting a conducive atmosphere for the students to showcase their skills and nurture them for the future ahead. However, some of the children continued to work in the markets to earn their livelihood, which puts a question mark over the government’s efforts towards the welfare of the children. Celebrating the occasion within the four walls of the school buildings will never help in achieving the motive of the commemoration but it should be held beyond the schools and other educational institutions so that an awareness is created on this occasion to make people aware the interests of the children, who not only are the leaders of tomorrow but also the visionaries and innovators who will shape the futuristic society. Amidst the multiple events, at least seven minors have been rescued and subsequently produced before the Child Welfare Committee at a provisional office established within the premises of GHSS Batote in Ramban district, which indicates how the children in too young age are crippled with their family situation and have preferred to kill their innocence by working at different places to earn their livelihood. The government must take appropriate measures in this regard and ensure that no children are forced to work at a young age and they are helped and assisted to get education by the government to strengthen the future of the nation further. The children, who can compete with the elderly in the market places, are skilful and can help the nation to fly high amidst the challenging phases.
