108 Ambulance Service workers call for fair wages

Srinagar, Dec 11: Drivers and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) employed under the 108 Ambulance Service, managed by Bharat Vikas Group Limited, have voiced their grievances over what they describe as inadequate wages.
The workers said despite their critical role in providing emergency medical services, they earn just Rs 300 to Rs 350 a day, leaving them struggling to sustain their families.
The workers expressed discontent, saying that such low pay falls far short of covering basic necessities. “It’s difficult to afford even the simplest needs, like buying clothes for our children or fulfilling any small desires,” said one EMT.
Adding to their woes are salary deductions, which they claim occur even during unavoidable absences caused by personal emergencies or bereavement. “Even if we face a family crisis, we are penalized with salary cuts. It feels like our dedication is being taken for granted,” said a driver on condition of anonymity.
The workers urged the concerned authorities to take immediate action to ensure fair wages and better working conditions, allowing them to continue serving the public without financial distress. [KNT]
