Srinagar, Dec 13: Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Kumar Choudhary Friday said that there were some loopholes in the power sector and more stock was needed ahead of possible harsh winters and snowfall.
Speaking to the reporters, Choudhary said that a review meeting with the Power Development Department was held in Srinagar on the directions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“We took a review of the available stock and loopholes in the power sector. We found that there were still some loopholes and there was a need for more stock ahead of possible harsh winters and snowfall,” he said.
Choudhary further said that the people have an elected government now and if they will face any issues like unscheduled power cuts and distress cuts in Kashmir, they will come and complain with their elected government.
“People will have satisfaction that their elected government is working and trying hard to provide them all sorts of facilities which the government has promised them,” he said.
The Deputy CM added, “We assure the public of Kashmir that the government has put their representatives everywhere and in the snowfall season, they will not face any sort of problem.”
Earlier this week it was reported that the Power Development Department (PDD) has requested for more power to reduce the issues of distress and unscheduled power cuts in Kashmir.
A top official had said that demand for power has increased significantly from the past two weeks and requires extra electricity to overcome it.
“We are expecting some power from the authorities because we have demanded more power. Let’s see what we get,” the official had said.
He also said, “As of the, the unrestricted demand of electricity including the ongoing power curtailment schedule has reached 2600-2700 Megawatts. However, as of now we have only 1450 MW of power.”
