Keep Kashmir connected

In Jammu and Kashmir, the weather conditions surpassed a decade-old record as the deficit rainfall of 70 per cent has been recorded in the last three months from December to February, which is the worst in the last eight years. However, there has been a hope for a major wet spell in Jammu and Kashmir as the weatherman here has predicted a four-day snowfall from February 25 to February 28 during which the light to moderate snowfall and rains are expected in both the divisions of Jammu and Kashmir. There is a possibility of light to moderate rains and snow for the next four days from Tuesday evening while the intensity would increase on February 27. There is a forecast of a major wet spell of this season amidst the deficit rainfall. Therefore, it becomes necessary for the administration to take proper and immediate measures to tackle any situation during the next four days of wet spell. The government should ensure that all critical infrastructure such as power lines, roads, and hospitals, is winterized to withstand the harsh conditions. Maintenance schedules for snow plows and snow-clearing equipment must be adjusted so that they are readily available when snowstorms hit. As Kashmir braces for the upcoming weather conditions, it is essential for the government to act with urgency and foresight. Effective measures to address these challenges will help prevent unnecessary hardship for the people and ensure that the beauty and charm of Kashmir can continue to thrive without being overshadowed by the chaos of extreme weather events.
