Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is witnessing a massive rush of vehicles, but unfortunately, some of the Old City areas are not getting the proper bus services, thereby leaving the residents fuming for a long time now. As Srinagar modernizes, there is a pressing need to focus on improving public transport, particularly bus services, in the old city areas, where infrastructure and mobility challenges are often overlooked. For decades, the old city has suffered from inadequate and inefficient public transportation, making it difficult for residents and visitors to navigate this culturally rich and historically significant part of Srinagar. The old city is home to a large population, many of whom rely on buses to commute for work, education, healthcare, and other daily activities. Unfortunately, the existing bus services often fail to meet the needs of these residents, leading to overcrowding, delays, and increased dependence on private vehicles, which in turn adds to traffic congestion and pollution. It is essential for the administration to take immediate steps to improve bus services in the old city. One of the first things that need to be done is increasing the frequency of buses during peak hours. This will reduce overcrowding and provide residents with a reliable and affordable option to commute. Additionally, buses should be made more accessible, with designated stops that are easy for elderly and disabled passengers to access. The buses themselves must also be upgraded to modern, comfortable vehicles that are well-maintained and environmentally friendly.
