Kangan, Feb 27: Despite claims from authorities that numerous streetlights have been restored and installed in Kangan Subdivision, residents from several areas are voicing their concerns about the ongoing issues with these installations. According to locals, many of the newly installed streetlights have been non-functional for over a year.
In Prang Village, residents specifically complained that the streetlights set up under the Rural Development scheme have been completely useless, providing no illumination to the area.
Locals further alleged that the lights were reinstalled just recently, but almost immediately after installation, they stopped working again. They argue that the scheme, which was intended to improve the area’s infrastructure, has ultimately failed to deliver any meaningful results.
The community has expressed growing frustration over what they perceive as mismanagement and an ineffective response from local authorities. Despite repeated complaints, the issue remains unresolved, leaving the affected areas in the dark.
Local resident Irshad said, “Even with Ramadan approaching, we face many difficulties during Sehri time. Last year, we requested the authorities to check these lights, which have not been functioning, but despite our numerous requests, they did not bother to address the issue.”
Residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ganderbal and the Assistant Commissioner for Development (ACD) of Ganderbal to look into the matter and take the necessary steps to resolve the issue.
