Pulwama, Aug 2: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pulwama, Waheed Rehman Parra on Friday visited the District Hospital Pulwama to take stock of the healthcare facilities and expressed concern over the shortage of staff and infrastructure gaps affecting patient care.
During the visit, Parra interacted with hospital staff and patients and assured them that their grievances would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
Speaking to reporters, Parra said that District Hospital Pulwama, being one of the busiest healthcare facilities in South Kashmir, needs adequate manpower and upgraded infrastructure to meet the rising patient load.
“I am deeply concerned about the shortage of doctors, paramedics and essential equipment at the hospital. It is imperative that we strengthen our health infrastructure to ensure quality and timely care to our people,” he said.
He said that this hospital has been in the news due to recent incidents and that is why the government needs to look into it seriously and take necessary steps in this regard.
Parra said that to address the issue of shortage of doctors and paramedics, the government must fill all vacant posts immediately.
Welcoming the recent statements by Members of Parliament from the Kashmir Valley, Parra said they have spoken true aspirations of people of J&K and they need to be appreciated.
He further said that he will personally follow up with the health department for necessary staff augmentation and infrastructural improvements at the hospital.
He said that there are different proposals before the government that include construction of maternity hospital in Sirnoo Pulwama, shifting of paramedical college to COVID hospital that are being followed with concerned authorities.
