Srinagar, Aug 11: In a significant action against the drug menace, Police on Monday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Budgam & Pulwama and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Budgam, a police team from Police Post Hardpanzoo, at a checkpoint established at Dasan village intercepted and apprehended a motorcyclist bearing Registration No. JK04B-7830, a police spokesman said in a statement.
During the search, police said that a team recovered three sticks of charas-like substance, wrapped in corn straw, weighing approximately 60 grams from his possession.
He has been identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah, resident of Hardu-Latina. The motorcycle used in the crime was also seized. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 109/2025 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Beerwah, and investigation is underway, police said.
In Pulwama, acting on specific intelligence, a police team of Police Station Pulwama established a naka at Circular Road Pulwama intercepted a suspected person namely Sajanbir Singh son of Harbajan Singh resident of Venke Lopoke Amritsar Punjab. During search, 3.5 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and accordingly, a case FIR No. 193/2025 under Section 8/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Pulwama, the statement added.
“We urge the general public to report any instances of drug peddling or other criminal activities to the nearest police station or by dialing 112. Your cooperation is essential in our collective fight against the drug menace. We reassure the community that police will continue to act firmly against such offenders as per the law,” police said.
