Jammu, Oct 21: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, on Tuesday said that anti-terrorist operations are being carried out daily across the Jammu division, as the presence of foreign terrorists in dense forest areas continues to pose a major challenge for security forces.
Speaking to media persons after leading a wreath-laying ceremony at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial near Jammu railway station on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, the IGP paid rich tributes to the brave personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The solemn day is observed every year in remembrance of 10 valiant CRPF jawans who made the supreme sacrifice on October 21, 1959, during an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh.
“For the past two years, the presence of foreign terrorists in Jammu’s forested areas has been a significant challenge. We are continuously strengthening our counter-terrorism and border protection grids, and efforts are underway to track and neutralise these infiltrators,” Tuti said.
He revealed that nearly 120 anti-terror operations are launched daily across the Jammu zone. “Whether it’s speculative or based on specific intelligence, our operations continue round the clock. Combating terrorism is an integral part of our duty,” the IGP said.
Highlighting the multifaceted responsibilities of the police force, Tuti noted that martyrdoms in the line of counter-terror operations are only one aspect of police sacrifice. “We must also remember those who lost their lives performing other duties — from traffic management to tackling crime. Every police martyr is an inspiration, and we salute their courage and commitment,” he said.
The IGP also expressed gratitude to the families of police martyrs, affirming that their sacrifice will always be honoured by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
As part of the Police Commemoration Day observance, a blood donation camp was organised on Monday at the police headquarters in Jammu, where 125 personnel from various wings, battalions, and district units voluntarily donated blood.
Meanwhile, commemorative events were held across all ten districts of Jammu division, with senior police officers, retired personnel, families of martyrs, and members of civil society paying homage to the fallen heroes.
