Srinagar, Jan 5: The birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, was celebrated with deep religious fervour and devotion across Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, as devotees thronged Gurudwaras to offer prayers and pay homage to the great spiritual leader.
Despite the harsh winter chill, a large number of devotees gathered at Gurudwaras across the Valley and the Jammu region to participate in special prayers, kirtans and religious discourses highlighting the life, teachings and supreme sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Sikhs from different parts of Kashmir joined the congregational prayers, marking the occasion with devotion and enthusiasm.
Special programmes were organised at Gurudwaras in several areas, including Amira Kadal, Jawahar Nagar, Allochibagh, Tral, Rangreth, Pattan and Baramulla in Kashmir, as well as in Jammu and Ladakh. Religious sermons focused on the Guru’s message of courage, equality, justice and selfless service to humanity.
Devotees expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the authorities to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations of the festival. Adequate facilities, security and other necessary arrangements were put in place to facilitate the congregations.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion.
In his message, the Lieutenant Governor described Guru Gobind Singh Ji as a great spiritual master, warrior, poet and philosopher who stood firmly against injustice throughout his life and worked tirelessly to establish a society based on equality, brotherhood and love.
“The values underlying the teachings of the great Guru and his valour transcend time and continue to inspire generations,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He further expressed hope that the timeless teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji would continue to guide people on the path of righteousness and wisdom. “May his ideals inspire our collective efforts to build a just social order, promote peace and prosperity, and strengthen the bonds of communal harmony in the region,” the LG added.
The celebrations concluded with collective prayers for peace, harmony and prosperity, reaffirming the enduring relevance of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s teachings in contemporary times.(KINS)
