Srinagar, Mar 20: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) president Farooq Abdullah on Friday called for an immediate end to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, saying the situation could have far-reaching global consequences.
Speaking to reporters here, Abdullah said peace must be restored at the earliest to prevent further escalation and humanitarian distress.
“May this war end and peace prevail so that people can live in dignity and without fear. The longer the conflict continues, the greater its impact will be on the world,” he said.
The remarks come amid continuing hostilities in West Asia following the February 28 offensive involving the United States and Israel against Iran. Reports of disruption in energy supply routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, have raised concerns over global economic stability.
Abdullah said prolonged conflict in the region would not only affect those directly involved but also have ripple effects across economies dependent on energy imports.
Meanwhile, the Centre has stepped up diplomatic engagement over the evolving situation. The Ministry of External Affairs said Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with several world leaders, including those from Oman, Malaysia, France, Jordan and Qatar, to assess developments.
According to the MEA, India has emphasised the need for dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions and restore stability in the region. Concerns were also raised over attacks on critical energy infrastructure and the need to ensure uninterrupted maritime trade.
India reiterated its support for safe navigation through key global shipping routes and underlined the importance of maintaining stability in energy markets, officials said. (KNS)
