Advancing brain health: How technology is transforming brain tumor treatment

The scenes witnessed across Kashmir, where long queues formed at fuel stations amid rumours of a possible lockdown, reflect a recurring challenge, panic overpowering reason despite official assurances. Even as the administration clarified that the situation was normal and supplies were adequate, anxious motorists rushed to stock fuel, creating artificial shortages and unnecessary chaos. Panic buying is not new. It often emerges in times of uncertainty, driven more by perception than reality. In this case, unverified information and speculation spread rapidly, likely amplified by social media, triggering fear among the public. Once such behaviour begins, it tends to snowball, as people fear being left out if they do not act immediately. However, such actions can be counterproductive. Hoarding disrupts supply chains, inconveniences essential services, and puts undue pressure on fuel stations. It also affects those who genuinely need fuel for daily livelihoods, including emergency services, public transport operators, and small businesses. The responsibility to address such situations lies on both sides. Authorities must ensure timely, transparent and consistent communication to counter misinformation. Quick rebuttals, visible ground-level monitoring, and coordination with fuel agencies can help build confidence among citizens. At the same time, the public must exercise restraint and rely on verified information. Responsible behaviour during such moments is essential to maintaining order and ensuring equitable access to resources. The incident serves as a reminder that trust is as crucial as supply in managing public response. Strengthening communication channels and fostering public awareness can go a long way in preventing such episodes in the future.
