Budgam, Apr 25: State Election Commissioner (SEC), Shantmanu Saturday conducted an extensive visit of district Budgam to oversee process of the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Electoral Rolls.
During his visit, the SEC participated in special awareness camps on SSR at Sheikhpora and Razwen areas of the district.
The SEC personally monitored the registration process at these special camps, ensuring that no eligible citizen is left behind in the updated rolls. He assessed the progress of the revision process and took stock of various measures being implemented to ensure the preparation of accurate, inclusive, and error-free electoral rolls. He emphasized on the importance of maintaining transparency, fairness, and timely completion of the revision exercise to strengthen the democratic process at the grassroots level.
Shantmanu interacted with officials associated with the electoral process and stressed the need for maximum public participation, especially encouraging the enrolment of eligible young voters, women, and members of marginalized sections of society. He also underlined the importance of removing duplications, correcting discrepancies, and ensuring that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls.
Interacting directly with a gathering of first-time voters (18+), the Commissioner emphasized on the importance of their participation in democratic process and encouraged the youth to take the lead in the electoral process.
Later, the SEC also chaired a high-level review meeting and held detailed evaluation of the current progress of the summary revision across various constituencies of the district as well as status of voter registration, verification drives, awareness campaigns, and field-level coordination.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam (District Panchayat Officer Budgam) Athar Aamir Khan; Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Block Development Officers (BDOs), and all key election-related officers were present in the meeting.
Shantmanu directed the officers to adopt a proactive approach in door-to-door verification and utilize digital platforms effectively to streamline the registration process, ensuring an error-free and inclusive voter list for the district.
He directed the officers to intensify awareness efforts so that citizens are fully informed about the SSR process and can actively participate in updating their electoral details.
He further instructed the administration to ensure close monitoring at every level and maintain coordination among all stakeholders for smooth and efficient execution of the exercise. He reiterated that a robust and updated electoral roll forms the foundation of free, fair, and transparent election process.
