Beerwah–Budgam road turns into commuters’ nightmare

Jammu, Aug 1: Amid incessant heavy rainfall across the Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban region, authorities have opened two gates of the Baglihar dam as a precautionary measure following a significant rise in the water level of the Chenab River.
The continuous rainfall over the past several hours has led to increased inflow into the Chenab, prompting dam authorities to regulate water discharge to ensure the safe management of the reservoir and prevent any potential risk downstream. The step has been taken as part of standard safety protocols while the region continues to witness adverse weather conditions.
Officials said the administration is closely monitoring the prevailing weather situation and the river’s flow, with all concerned departments remaining on high alert to deal with any eventuality.
Authorities have urged people residing along the banks of the Chenab River to remain vigilant and avoid venturing close to the river as water discharge from the dam may fluctuate depending on the inflow.
Officials added that emergency response teams have been kept on standby and necessary measures are in place to respond promptly to any situation arising due to the continuing rainfall. [KNT]
