Electricity tariff hike burden on people: Aijaz Khan

Srinagar, Aug 24: Former EJCC (Employees Joint Consultative Committee) Chief and senior political and social activist Aijaz Khan has strongly opposed the recent 6.83% increase in electricity tariffs in Jammu & Kashmir, calling it an additional burden on people already struggling with inflation and economic hardship.
“When people are already struggling to meet their basic household expenses, making electricity more expensive is deeply insensitive. Jammu & Kashmir is itself a major hydropower-producing region, yet its own people are being asked to pay more for electricity. This contradiction deserves serious consideration,” Aijaz Khan said.
He further said the decision is contrary to the spirit of the commitments made to the people during the Assembly elections.
“The people were promised 200 units of free electricity and economic relief. Increasing tariffs in the opposite direction raises serious questions about the government’s priorities. We chose our own government so that the people of Jammu & Kashmir could feel represented and heard.”
Aijaz Khan urged the government to immediately reconsider and withdraw the tariff hike, particularly in view of the economic condition of ordinary households.
“The people of Jammu & Kashmir need relief, not additional burdens. This decision should be taken back immediately,” he said.
