J&K to remain hot, humid over next 10 days: MeT

Srinagar, Aug 27: The Meteorological Centre on Thursday predicted that Jammu and Kashmir would witness generally hot and humid weather over the next 10 days, with brief spells of rain and thundershowers at scattered places.
According to the forecast, brief spells of rain or thundershowers are expected at scattered places during the early morning and afternoon hours from August 28 to 30.
The weather is likely to remain generally hot and humid on August 31 and September 1, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. Brief intense showers are also possible during the early morning and afternoon hours.
From September 2 to 7, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, although brief spells of rain or thundershowers may occur at scattered places during the early morning and afternoon hours.
The Meteorological Centre has cautioned that brief intense showers at localised places on August 31 and September 1 may trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides.
It advised farmers to continue harvesting and other agricultural operations while keeping local weather conditions in view.
Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 29.3 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 16.7 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Qazigund recorded 27.2 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 24.7 degrees, Kupwara 30.1 degrees, Kokernag 26.8 degrees and Gulmarg 20.3 degrees as the maximum temperatures.
In the Jammu division, Jammu city recorded a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.3 degrees, while Banihal recorded 30.1 degrees, Batote 25.9 degrees, Katra 30 degrees, Bhaderwah 29.1 degrees and Kathua 33.1 degrees.
Udhampur received the highest rainfall of 51 mm during the past 24 hours, while Kathua recorded 24.2 mm of rain, according to the weather bulletin.
The MeT centre said people, particularly those living in vulnerable areas, should remain alert during periods of intense rainfall. (KNO)
