Kulgam, Sep 6: The Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kulgam has prohibited the entry and movement of Medical Representatives (MRs) in the hospital’s OPDs, wards, casualty and other patient-care areas during official duty hours, citing concerns over disruption of patient care and hospital functioning.
As per an order issued by the Office of the Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Kulgam, the restriction has been imposed with immediate effect and will remain applicable during the working hours of 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The hospital administration said it had come to its notice that medical representatives were frequently visiting OPDs, wards, casualty and other patient-care areas during working hours. In some instances, they were allegedly found interacting with patients and examining prescriptions.
According to the order, such practices adversely affect patient care, disrupt hospital discipline and interfere with the smooth functioning of clinical services.
The Medical Superintendent has directed that Medical Representatives shall not enter or approach doctors or patients in OPDs, wards, casualty or other patient-care areas for promotional or professional purposes during duty hours.
However, the order allows MRs to meet concerned doctors after duty hours, provided such interactions are conducted in a manner that does not interfere with patient-care services or the functioning of the hospital.
The administration has further directed all Consultants, Medical Officers, Nursing Staff, Heads of Sections, Security Personnel and other concerned officials to ensure strict implementation of the directions.
The order also makes it clear that any violation of the instructions will be viewed seriously and may invite disciplinary action under the relevant rules.
Copies of the order have been forwarded to the District Development Commissioner Kulgam, Director Health Services Kashmir and Chief Medical Officer Kulgam for information. (KNC)
