Jammu, Sep 14: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has said that the demands raised by National Health Mission (NHM) workers are genuine, but appealed to them to call off their ongoing strike.
Choudhary said the Omar Abdullah-led government was committed to fulfilling the promises made in its election manifesto and would address the concerns of employees and workers within the available institutional and financial framework.
He said the government was aware of the issues being raised by NHM workers and maintained that their concerns could be resolved through dialogue rather than prolonged disruption of health services.
The Deputy Chief Minister also blamed the Centre for the delay in restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying the Union Territory’s limited financial resources were affecting the government’s ability to meet various demands.
He also alleged that J&K was not receiving adequate funding from the Centre, which, he said, had constrained the government’s financial space.
Choudhary urged the NHM workers to end the strike and resume their duties, while assuring that their demands would be taken up by the government.
The NHM workers have been pressing for resolution of their long-standing demands, including issues related to job security, regularization and service conditions. [KNT]
