Gund Tehsildar post vacant for six months, people face hardships

Ganderbal, Sep 16: The post of Tehsildar in Gund tehsil of Ganderbal district has remained vacant for nearly six months, with the officer holding additional charge of the area also reportedly responsible for another tehsil, causing difficulties for residents seeking revenue and other administrative services.
The Tehsildar of Gund retired from service on March 31, 2026, following which the Tehsildar of Kangan was assigned additional charge of Gund.
According to sources, the same officer was subsequently given additional charge of Ganderbal tehsil as well, leaving one officer responsible for the functioning of three tehsils.
Residents said the arrangement has created difficulties for people who approach the tehsil offices for revenue and other official work. They alleged that on several occasions people have had to return without completing their work because the concerned Tehsildar was unavailable.
Residents have urged the administration to appoint regular Tehsildars in Gund and Ganderbal so that the additional-charge arrangement can be ended and public services are not affected.
They have also appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and ensure that the vacant posts are filled at the earliest. [KNT]
