Keep Kashmir connected

The tall claims and promises with regard to the power scenario in Kashmir have always fallen flat on the ground. Be it a popular government or the bureaucratic rule, the people across the Valley have always been pushed to the winters as they have never received the electricity, which they have been promised. The worst power scenario is in the non-metered areas where the concerned department has announced eight hours curtailment in day hours. From 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM, the concerned department has announced eight hours curtailment in the non-metered areas while the people as per the reports have complained of unscheduled power cuts during the non-curtailment hours. One fails to understand whether the department will be able to ensure 24×7 electricity in any winter here in the Valley. There has been no winter in the valley when the concerned department didn’t remain in the news for not adhering to its curtailment schedule. The people are being blamed for non-judicious use of the electricity, but one fails to understand how the residents would be able to use the electricity judiciously when they are not being provided the adequate supply. It seems that the blame game between the consumers and the concerned department would continue for years as the people have claimed that the augmentation of the infrastructure has not brought any relief among them. As the public cooperation is necessary for the better power scenario, the concerned department at the same time should consider decreasing the power curtailment hours so that the people would be able to cooperate in ensuring judicious use of the electricity.
