Keep Kashmir connected

Kashmir has been a place where the norm violations with regard to the traffic rules could be seen taking place at any road, resulting in challans by the traffic police cops, deployed on the roads to streamline the traffic. However, at most of the places in Srinagar interiors, the traffic lights are of no use as most of the times, it has been observed that people don’t pay heed to the lights, but stop and go as per their will, which makes no sense of installing the street lights. The commuters in Kashmir are only following the traffic signals when they witness the presence of traffic cops at the spot, else they forget to give space to other commuters on the roads. This is the situation in Srinagar where traffic lights have been installed, but one fails to understand the situation in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, where the authorities have failed to install the traffic lights to bring an ease to the commuters, especially the traffic cops, deployed on the roads. The installation of traffic lights and subsequent obeying the signals by the commuters could help in reducing the traffic congestions as well as the road accidents. There is a need to ensure that the commuters follow the traffic signals in letter and spirit while the commuters must understand their responsibility by following the directions in spirit so that there is an end to the traffic norms violation and also the traffic is streamlined in an easier manner. Besides, the authorities in Srinagar should ensure that the people obey the traffic signals and those found violating it, should be dealt with strictly as per the law.
