Pulwama, Jul 7: Despite elapsing a decade, the authorities have failed to install a filtration plant at a Water Supply Scheme in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, forcing the locals to consume contaminated water.
The residents of Rakh, ZahidBagh and Darbagh villages in Pulwama said that Bon Rakh-Zahid Bagh water supply scheme, which was made functional some ten years before, has been functioning without a filtration plant since then.
They said that in absence of the filtration plant, the water from NallahTongri is directly being supplied to them, which is highly contaminated.
Gulzar Ahmad, a local resident said that despite that the people are directly getting the water supply from the scheme, but unfortunately the filtration plant has not been installed at the scheme yet.
He said that since the last 10 years, they are forced to drink contaminated water of the nalla Tongri, which is highly contaminated.
He said that they are hardly getting a water supply for one to two hours on a daily basis and the supply is dependent on electricity, which remains defunct in case of power failures.
Locals said that they have taken up this issue in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They said that despite the scheme being started a decade before, dozens of households in Darbagh and Zahid Bagh are yet to be connected with the pipeline.
Locals appealed the authorities to install a filtration plant there and connect all pending household with the scheme.
