Will machinery help to end sufferings

The machines worth crores have once again been procured by the government to clear the roads after snowfall in Kashmir, but, it would be interesting to see whether the modern technology will help the people to get respite from the ground situation soon or the previous lethargy to clear the roads will continue after the fresh whiteout. It is expected that most parts of the Valley would receive fresh snowfall in between January 11-12 as the concerned Meteorological department has issued a forecast, predicting light to moderate snowfall in J&K parts from January 11 afternoon. Amid the forecast, the Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) has claimed to have procured machines worth Rs 78 crores this winter and have geared up already by establishing control rooms and keeping the men and machinery ready to tackle the situation, but such assurances have been made in the past as well. The difference, however, at this juncture, is the availability of the machines, as the department has claimed that the machines would help in ensuring road clearance work in an easier manner. The people are keen to observe the change after the fresh snowfall to see whether the procuring of machines will bring any respite or would be a futile exercise this time as well. It is the time when the government should make the concerned department accountable and ensure that all the roads whether interiors or exteriors are cleared on time so that the sufferings of people as witnessed in the past would come to an end and they could heave a sigh of relief.
