Making mockery of people’s sentiments, the claims of the government are once again contrary to the ground realities when it comes to the market checking and ensuring the government fixed rates on essentials, especially food stuff. The government has claimed that nearly Rs seven lakh have been recovered from the people in the last four months, who were found violating the government norms. Besides, several establishments have been sealed as well. One fails to understand who has been fined so far as there is no change in the ground situation. The people are continuously being forced to face hardships as there has been no end to the skyrocketing prices of essentials. Be it mutton, chicken, fruits or vegetables, the consumers are being looted as per the will of the fruit sellers, mutton dealers and other establishment owners, which indicates that the action being taken against them is not suitable and thus leave the consumers to lurch at large. The illegal profiteering is indeed against the basic principles of Islam, but the law has to take its course to ensure that the downtrodden section of the society, who also deserve to get the food stuff and other things on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, must heave a sigh of relief. It is the time when the government should ensure that the rates being issued are implemented in letter and spirit so that the poor people are not pushed to the wall and the consumers in general are not looted as per the will of establishment owners.
