Local public parks in shambles

The public parks, located in the residential areas across Srinagar are full of mess and are no longer attracting the local populace. Several public parks in Srinagar were recently handed over to Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), which otherwise were being taken care of by the Floriculture department. However, since the parks were handed over to SMC, the parks are in shambles as there is no one to take care of these parks. The parks as per the reports have been handed over to the SMC, but the lack of employees is only worsening the situation of these parks badly. Given the congested areas in Old City, the local residents were using these parks for several purposes, but the condition of these parks at present is depriving the locals to even sit there as it has lost its charm in absence of the proper caretaker. One fails to understand how and why the parks were handed over to the SMC when it has no employees like gardeners to keep the gardens beautiful like it used to be in the past. Therefore, in order to keep these parks beautiful, there is a need to depute officials especially gardeners so that necessary steps are taken well on time and the parks would once again attract the visitors especially from the locality.
