Be vigilant, ensure safety

After a prolonged heat wave in Kashmir, the next four days are expected to witness a shift in the weather conditions as the administration has issued an advisory, informing the people about the possibility of mudslides, landslides, flash floods and other related things. The weather advisory has been issued for the period of four days from August 02 to August 05 with the people being appealed to avoid venturing in and around the water bodies like river Jhelum, its tributaries and Nallahs. Besides, what remains to be ensured is that the Shikara wallas and others will not cross the water bodies and must not carry the tourists without confirming the conditions and situations. The advisory has focussed on tourists, local Shikara Wallas, Sand Miners and Boat Crossing Points for travel at Dal Lake and River Jhelum and other water bodies shall not attempt to cross before verifying the condition and situation of these water bodies. In the past, Srinagar and other areas have witnessed the incidents of drowning during the inclement weather conditions, but unfortunately the people had not bothered to follow the directions from the administration and thus led to the unfortunate incidents. At this juncture, the next four days are crucial and there is a need to follow the directives from the district administration in letter and spirit so that no untoward incident will occur and the precious lives could be saved.
