NC’s proposed Jantar Mantar protest political stunt: M A Shah

Srinagar, Jul 13: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and District Panchayat Election Incharge Ganderbal Mohammed Amin Shah, launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing his administration of adopting a “dubious” approach to governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference, Shah alleged that the current state government of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference is deliberately stalling critical development projects across the region. He claimed that these delays are part of a calculated strategy to exert political pressure on the central government, specifically regarding the demand for the restoration of statehood. “The Jantar Mantar protest call by JKNC is just a publicity stunt. The government is holding development hostage to blackmail the Centre,” Shah stated. “They are manufacturing delays in essential infrastructure and welfare projects to create political leverage, showing a complete lack of concern for the public interest.”
“Statehood will benefit to MLAs only, It is like they don’t want any accountability while development is for the people and can be done within the framework of Union Territory.” Shah argued that the persistent demand for statehood by the current administration is largely self-serving. According to the BJP leader, the restoration of statehood would primarily benefit the political class, specifically legislators and government officials, rather than the common citizen.
“The local population does not care about the power games of politicians; they want tangible development, employment, and security,” Shah remarked. He emphasized that the significant progress witnessed in the region in recent years was made possible only through the direct intervention of the Union Government and the administration under the Lieutenant Governor. The BJP leader urged Chief Minister Abdullah to “step out of the corridors of power” and engage with the people on the ground. Shah asserted that the local populace is increasingly dissatisfied with the current state government’s performance, contrasting it with the perceived stability and security provided during the tenure of former Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
“There is a growing sentiment among the public that they were much safer and better served under the LG’s administration,” Shah said. “People are feeling disillusioned, and they are beginning to realize that this government is not prioritising their basic needs.” Shah concluded by reiterating the BJP’s commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, promising that the party would continue to highlight what he termed the “anti-people” policies of the current administration.
