The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing ‘dance of deaths’ due to the second wave of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic as over 25 people are dying in every 24 hours since the last couple of days. The toll of deaths has been increasing manifold while the recovery rate too has declined from 96 per cent to 82 per cent in one month. However, the reports claim that a total of 47 patients who were tested positive of COVID-19 have died since last night in different districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The prevalent situation seems worsening as the virus is tightening its grip across J&K. In the meantime, the government has been claiming availability of each and every COVID related management in the Union Territory, saying there is no shortage of vaccines, medicines, oxygen and other related things. Besides, the government has also imposed a lockdown across J&K till Monday morning and has extended it in the four districts here and will remain in place till Thursday. But, one fails to understand why some sectors have been exempted from the lockdown. If there is seriousness in preventing the virus from spreading, only emergency services shall be exempted from lockdown till the Corona Curfew is in place. There is a need to consider stringent measures almost for the next five days so that the spike is curbed and the virus is prevented from spreading.
