The people in Jammu and Kashmir like other parts of the country have been badly affected due to the prevalent COVID-19 situation that claims above 50 lives almost every day across the Union Territory. All the markets have been closed as the government has announced Corona Curfew in all the 20 districts of J&K. The situation is turning bad from worse almost every day as there has been no end to the spike in the COVID cases and also in deaths due to the virus. Nonetheless, the government amid such a situation has once again extended the curfew across the Union Territory till May 24 in order to prevent the virus from spreading. Interestingly, the government has announced a relief package for 14,711 tourism players across Jammu and Kashmir including Shikarawalas, Ponywalas and others. The decision has been welcomed by one and all as it is set to provide a sigh of relief among the affected tourism players who have suffered the losses since the year 2019. However, one fails to understand why the people from other sectors like transporters, vendors, shopkeepers have been left high and dry. The transporters too have suffered a huge loss in the pandemic and deserve to be included in the list of those who are being provided relief in wake of the ongoing pandemic. Therefore, the government should understand the need of providing relief among all the affected people especially those who are daily earners so that they can meet the daily needs and could heave a sigh of relief amid the ongoing lockdown.
