The people across Jammu and Kashmir are confined to the four walls of their houses as the government has imposed strict curfew in all the 20 districts of the Union Territory to prevent the virus from spreading. The curfew is in place from April 29 evening will continue till May 24 as per the recent government directive. The experts have been pitching for the strict curfew for some more time in order to contain the virus spread. However, amid such a situation, there are people who have not earned even a single penny to feed their families and thus have been facing tremendous hardships. The people who are daily earners have not been yet assisted by the government. Although some NGOs have been helping these poor families, it seems that the government has completely neglected them on the ground. The daily earners are dependent on the present situation and there is a need to give special attention to them so that they are not pushed to the wall. The government, like previous year, should form committees of the low rung officers to identify these families so that the process of providing them necessary items including the food stuff is initiated. We must not forget the poor people amidst the lockdown, which has been in place for the last 20 days. Let us join hands again to help the poor in our society. Let’s not push them towards starvation.
