A much needed step

The reports coming to the fore with regard to the youth indulging in drug menace here describe the prevalent situation as quite dangerous as the number of youth involved in such a menace is increasing rapidly. The drugs are ruining hundreds of lives in the union territory as there has been no end to the drug addiction here. One fails to understand how long this situation would continue. However, the interference of religious clerics can always play a pivotal role in any situation being witnessed on the land of Sufi Saints. One must appreciate the decision taken by the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), who recently announced to start a campaign in this regard to seize the rising number of youth indulging in drug menace. The government has already started a campaign in this regard and so far hundreds of people involved in drug peddling have been arrested and many among them booked. Such decisions would help in curbing the drug menace for sure. Nonetheless, there is a need that all the religious clerics, who are leading prayers in small Masjids across the Valley, should participate in this campaign as it would help in extending the campaign in Kashmir Valley so that the youth involved in drug addiction can be prevented from ruining their lives further. The society in general should also extend its support to the MMU at this juncture so that the campaign can prove fruitful on the ground.
