The differently-abled people across Jammu and Kashmir were being deprived of the basic facilities. These specially-abled persons have been receiving indifferent treatment since long, thus leaving them to lurch at large. The basic facilities like sports fields and other related things remain out of reach for the disabled persons despite dozens among them showcasing their talent and becoming the icon at national level. Scores of specially-abled youth have got their entry in the international teams as well due to the classic skills. But, back at home, they are lacking the facilities, thus can prove detrimental for their career. However, in a bid to provide a platform to the differently-abled youth in Jammu and Kashmir, the government has finally taken a favourable decision, directing that all the stadia must be made accessible to persons with disabilities and that satisfactory seating options for wheelchair-bound spectators should be kept where they could be positioned. The government also stated that accessible toilets should be made available at all the infrastructure facilities that are specially designed to better accommodate people with physical disabilities. These facilities could help the differently-abled and talented youth to nourish their skills so that they can stay at par with the outside youth and can also play for the country. These steps and measures are welcome and the government must consider taking more such measures in the future so that these differently-abled youth can avail the benefits and also showcase their talent.
