Disengagement pushes families to wall

There is no let-up to the protests by the Helpers of the Social Welfare Department’s ICDS project as they continue to press for their demands after the government issued an order with regard to their disengagement. The Helpers so far many a times hit the streets to criticise the government’s move and demanded the government to take a favourable decision that would accommodate their aspirations. The Helpers have been working in the department for the last 30 years and even during that they had to protest for the release of wages from time to time. And, recently, the Government has come up with an order for disengaging them, which according to them is sheer injustice. It has become a matter of life and death as their sustenance has become difficult by virtue of the order. There are people who question the government about the measures being taken with regard to their survival as the government has claimed that those who will be competent will be accommodated soon. However, the Helpers after being disengaged have been hitting the streets every now and then to press the government with regard to the revocation of the order. The poor Helpers, who have lost their livelihood must not be pushed to the wall and the government should come up with an alternative or roll back the order so that their source of income will be back and they along with their families could heave a sigh of relief. Keeping in view the sufferings of ICDS helpers, the government should consider rolling back the decision or else should accommodate deserving candidates in another scheme for the wellbeing of the poor families.
