The tall claims of the administration about the beautification of Srinagar have fallen flat when it comes to the implementation of directions or procedures within the City and around. In one such instance, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has failed to kick start the second phase of street lights in Srinagar city, which has not only pointed fingers over the government claims, but also leaving a large chunk of people to lurch at large in the evening hours. The installation of street lights is imperative for the people, especially those living within City areas amid the presence of a large number of stray dogs in every nook and corner of Srinagar City. In absence of the street lights, the people here have been facing tremendous hardships and are not able to come out in evening hours due to the threat of stray dogs as well as the drainage and other related issues. It becomes difficult for the people to walk in absence of the street lights, which is not only leave them to lurch at large, but also puts a question mark over the claims of the government with regard to providing facilities to the people as well as the beautification of Srinagar. Therefore, in order to provide basic facilities to the people, there is a need to kick start the second phase of installation of street lights within Srinagar and also the concerned should identify the defunct lights so that a necessary repairing process is initiated for the wellbeing of the people.
