Army, IAF rescue Hungarian trekker

Jammu, Aug 27: The Indian Air Force (IAF) assisted by the army and district administration Kishtwar on Saturday rescued a Hungarian trekker in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, five days after he got lost while climbing a mountain in Umasi La Pass in Sumcham valley of Paddar region.
“IAF carried out rescue operation at 17000 feet height near Umasi La pass in between Padder Kishtwar and Zanskar Ladakh,” defence sources said, adding, “Rashtriya Rifles deployed in Dool and IAF carried out a 30-hour search and rescue operation in snow-bound and in upper reaches of Greater Himalayan ranges of Machhail -Paddar, Kishtwar.”
The team rescued Akos Vermes, 38, from Budapest, from the treacherous heights of Umasila in Sumcham Valley.
“He was examined medically… He had lost his way while on a mountaineering expedition and was left exposed to inclement weather for five days.
The traveller was located by a joint effort of Indian Army and Indian Air Force who conducted the search operation and rescued him on 27 Aug 2022.
The traveller was brought to Kishtwar and was physically examined by a medical team of Indian Army at Kishtwar which provided immediate medical assistance to rehabilitate the traveller who had lost his way while on mountaineering expedition and was exposed to inclement weather for a prolonged period of five days.
The well being of the individual was informed to the Hungarian Embassy by DC Kishtwar through a video call.
